Why Stay in a Job that’s no Fun

For Japanese who are not content with their job or job prospects, consider a move to Canada. Now is a great time to find work here.
American tariffs on Canadian goods has Canada scrambling to bring its vast energy resources to international markets, and there are not enough local Canadians to fill the work positions that are opening up. Canada needs workers.
And having lived in Japan for 27 years, I know that good Japanese workers know how to work.
If you have a certificate in a trade or healthcare and some English ability, you may be eligible to work here right now. Canada has recently invited 3,500 tradespeople for permanent residence. And it is hiring healthcare workers too.
If you lack these skills but would still like to work here, consider entering a college in Canada. Colleges here offer English upgrading programs that concentrate on practical English. Once you finish, you can go straight into a trade or healthcare program. There are some cool jobs in these fields right now, and most courses run one to two years. And here in Canada, competent workers with valuable trade skills are well respected and can earn a decent living.
This is a popular route for university-eligible Canadians these days too. Now that AI is expected to take white collar jobs, many Canadians are turning to practical certificates to gain employment.
What I like most though, is the flexibility of the system. Once you earn a trade certificate, it is easier to enter university. You can receive credit for college courses when you apply to university here. And Canadians go to university regardless of their age.
Canada is a vast, underpopulated country that has long recognized the importance of educating its far-flung citizenry. Perhaps that’s what earned it such a large completion rate in tertiary education – according to OECD data, Canada is the “most educated country” in the world.
It’s not wrong to think of Canada as a nation of rough-and-tumble ice hockey and world-leading donut consumption; but it is an educated one. And it has jobs for those who are willing.
