Unit 6 Opinions vs. Facts
To assess claims and make good judgements, we need to know the difference between opinion and fact.
Opinion vs. Fact
A fact is something true or real. It is supported by reasons and evidence. We can assess facts because we can observe and prove (or disprove) them.An opinion is what a person believes or thinks about something. We cannot assess opinions because we cannot prove them.
- Mia thinks ice cream is better than chocolate. Opinion
- Ice cream melts at a lower temperature than chocolate does. Fact
Good Luck!
